YOU CAN TEACH AN OLD DOG NEW TRICKS!......I HOPE!!!

I saw this on Jeanette's Blog and thought it a perfect post for me today

THE OLD ROCKING CHAIR IS EMPTY TODAY
For Grandma no longer sits in it;
She's off in her car to visit or shop
and buzzes around every minute.
No one can shove Grandma back on the shelf;
She is versatile, forceful, dynamic,
thats not a pie in the oven I see!
her baking today is ceramic.
You wont see her trundle off early to bed
from her place in the warm chimney nook;
Her typewriter clickety clacks through the night ,
For Grandma is writing a book.
Grandma never takes a hesitant step
to slow her steady advancing.
She wont tend the babies for you anymore
For Grandma is taking up dancing .
She is not content with the crumbs of old thought ,
with meagre and second-hand knowledge,
don't bring your mending for Grandma to do
For Grandma has gone off to college .

  2. Have a great day! You will enjoy every minute.

    It reminds me of my first days....at college, then later at university...it is a wonderful thing to be surrounded by people who are also learning!

  5. Great post Ruth and so apt. My favorite role model is Diana Trent (Waiting for God) that's the kind of woman that I want to be (minus the hitting everybody on the head with my walking stick)when I get older. ;-)

    Let us know how you get on!

  7. Hey I think I need to go off to college... I've just had to change computers as the last one kept putting a big sign with an X in the middle of yours and anyone else's comments I tried to speak on... maybe it was simply a message that I should shut up though I don't know

    Ruth really you don't have to be nervous... further ed is where it's at these days I'm serious it's the KIDS who are out of touch, not you so just remember that

    Lots of love

  10. LOL great poem, Ruth. It's not so bad getting older is it, we just have to have stand up for our rights :-) and remind the younger ones we can learn as much at them :-)
