THURSDAY THOUGHTS

a thought for Thursday

"Teachers open the door, but you must enter by yourself."
~Chinese Proverb~

I'm doing a lot of thinking at the moment.........

In 'student mode' I'm thinking about the next Literature Assignment I have to do.."Compare and contrast the presentation of childhood in works by William Blake (Songs of Innocence and Experience) and George Eliot (Silas Marner)".

In 'teacher mode' I'm thinking..." I wonder how the Maths Afterschool Club will go this afternoon?"

In 'gardener mode' I'm thinking I really need to get into the garden and finish clearing away the frost-bitten plants.....
I'm also thinking...."how on earth have these roses still managed to bloom?

despite the cold temperatures...........................

at the same time as the Winter Jasmine's started flowering"...............In 'hungry mode' I'm thinking ...."I need to cut some soldiers to dip in my boiled egg!"

But most of all I'm thinking......................

thanksgiving

Ruth, we have roses still in bloom, and last year had one out on Christmas day!

You're doing an awful lot of thinking there Ruth, if you have time try my Christmas Carols Quiz - that'll get you thinking even more! :)

Oh Ruth! Eggie soldiers :-) I haven't had them for years. What memories you have revived :-) I want some right now LOL

Is that your own garden thermometer? How intellectual! I thought it was a sundial for thick people like me (also most sundials are made of hyper-shiny BRASS (why?!?) and never adjusted for British Summer Time which makes for some distinct inconvenience...)

Well that explains why I'm still out here in the bloody rainy freezing cold then ;->...

And as Andree said what are the soldiers?

Thanks for all your comments. For those who asked:
Soldiers are bread or toast sliced into strips to dip in a soft boiled egg. :o)
Have a great weekend

It's amazing to see how long the roses are flowering this year, isn't it? Glad that yours are still flowering too Ruth.

Sounds like you've enrolled in a very interesting course!

So far no snow here either but then we usually don't get much snow.

Have a lovely weekend!

That was a a lot of thinking yesterday, Ruth! Knowing you, I bet you got about 50 times more actually accomplished.
Still, not a bad time for thinking passing thoughts. Mine: Has anyone muttered yet in your presence with a grizzly, embittered expression, "Bloody students...."?
And if they should, what reply do you have ready?
Lol!

PS - a great set of pics. And I find I am late for Thanksgiving yet again. I will never get the hang of it, seeing as it doesn't exist anywhere near here. Sorry, folks, but we useless, ungrateful Western Europeans don't do Thanksgiving. We're too busy complaining & moaning about everything!! It's the Government's fault, whatever it is!

Icarus;
Due to the lines of experience etched on my face (some people call them wrinkles!) I been mistaken for a 'bl**dy tutor' rather than as a student....LOL

Great post and I can't believe you have those gorgeous roses! We've had a late fall here as well but I have no roses left.

Thanks for the Thanksgiving wishes! We had a nice meal with our families and have been relaxing on our long weekend.
