THIS GRANDMA'S LEARNING GRAMMAR

My main passion and hobby is gardening but Hubby and I had always been avid cryptic crossword "doers" and always had a fascination for words. When I was at school (a long time ago now) we didn't just have single English lessons....we had English Literature and English Grammar as two separate subjects. And (shouldn't start a sentence with and) speaking to our grandchildren, nowadays English Grammar and spelling seemed to have dropped by the wayside a little; the emphasis being put on content rather than correct English. But (sure I shouldn't start a sentence with but either!) I know that even I (especially when writing my blog in my "chatty" way), despite all those lessons, often make many grammatical errors. I was, therefore, really pleased when I saw that Mauigirl's Mother had started a blog on the subject of good grammar. Even though I do keep on making the same mistakes at least I'll have a blog to remind me of my errors! Her blog is called Marge's Words To The Wise...click on the picture below to pay her a visit.

I find it so sad that children don't learn english grammar anymore. - It's such a beautiful languange. and yes we all make "chatty" faux pas, but it's a choice thing, not necessarily an ignorance thing. LONG LIVE GRAMMAR!

Here in the states grammar is not taught beyond basic punctuation... and spelling??? Forget about it.

I'll be sure to check the grammar blog out!

Hope you're doing well.

Thanks, Ruth, for giving my mom such good publicity! She is so excited that 8 people have commented on her blog. She is in the process of coming up with another post shortly. She did answer her comments today! Thanks to all of you who have visited her. I think this is great for her, it's giving her a new interest in life! She just moved into a senior citizens apartment last summer after my dad died and she is finally settled in completely and has time now to learn how to use her computer that she inherited from us! Today I gave hre lessons on playing computer Solitaire so she'll get better with the mouse!

And, um, maybe I should learn how to proofread before I post and put "hre" instead of "her."
