IDENTIFICATION

Mark has kindly left a comment and identified the (what I thought was) butterfly in my yesterday's post. It is actually a Brimstone Moth. I had a look at Mark's wildlife photographs...they are superb....please take a look. Words cannot describe them. You'll find his site if you click HERE. He also has a very good blog which you will find the link for when you look at his photos.

Do you incidentally know the difference between a butterfly and a moth? I don't think it IS as simple as one comes out by day and the other by night ... is it ..?

Aaah!

This website tells something:

http://www.enchantedlearning.com/subjects/butterfly/allabout/Bflyormoth.shtml

Puts it in a nutshell (and you'll go "ah!!" when I tell you this:

BUTTERFLIES rest with their wings together closed (the above website illustrates this ...)

MOTHS rest with their wings open (like pinned-down collectors' specimens ...)

Do you see what I mean? I mulled this over and it's 100% true ...

Gleds-

You can also tell the difference by observing their antennae... moth's antennae look feathery while butterfly antennae do not.
