GOOD NEW(t)S!
I've really got a glut of lettuces at the moment; the Little Gems are starting to heart up beautifully and although the slugs have had a few nibbles there is plenty left for me. I'm a big green salad fan and have been adding some Strawberry Spinach leaves to my salads...
I've heeded the WARNING on the link sent to me by Scarecrow and only added a few leaves at a time; I'm pleased to say I've suffered no ill effects.
I've had a pleasant morning tidying out the shed and putting the plastic greenhouse away...the forecast is that the weather is going to warm up again and I need the greenhouse space for pots now. During my numerous coffee breaks I sat on the bench by the pond and was pleased to see the Newts are playing the mating game.
And guess what!!!!!!!...................Drum Roll....Fanfare of trumpets...................

BABY DRAGONS!!!!
How big are these? We found a tiny, tiny one the other day. Smaller than Mummy's little finger. And he had an orange belly. No spots though. Is that a palmate newt? Very dark on top. I put a photo on my blog but it's blurred.
Thank Ruth, for answer!
Oh your newts are lovely!! And I'm glad the rubbish has gone!
Me too, I am looking forward to harvesting green salad from my kitchen garden! What a feeling to eat something you saw growing!
By the way, I cannot see the last photos on my screen, just little boxes with red crosses....??
Best wishes from Germany,
Anita
Ok my end Anita...so I'm not sure what the problem is. Thanks for dropping by.
Hi Ruth,
thought you were having lettuce soup!!!!
Cheers Mark
Great lettuces....mine aren't anywhere near that size.....just shows the difference between North and South doesn't it? Great blog really enjoyed catching up on things in your garden.
Oh how my heart sings to see those cute newts, Ruth! Great photos.
I love green salads too. Do you grow lambs lettuce? It's quite hardy and is lovely used in a mixed leaf salad.
