I'M FOXED

I'm fairly good at identifying many of the flowering plants we grow in Britain but as much as I love our insect life my identification skills at very poor. In the hopes that Mark (or someone equally as helpful) may drop by again ....what's this butterfly called......I want to say Common Blue?

I do know this is a Foxglove though but had to post a photo as it is a chance seedling that emerged in a trough. Hasn't it done well!

ermmmm...and if you have time...what about this?
there are some close up shots on There Are A Million Stories.

I'm probably worse in identifying insects than you are, so I can't help you I'm afraid. But I do like your foxgloves a lot, very nice! :-)

All I can say is that the first one's a butterfly & the second one's a moth. This is bc I did some research on that (don't even recall why now - but I did it). Butterflies rest with wings closed together, moths with wings spread out. That's all that I can say... sorry!

Sorry Ruth,
I'm not very good at insect identification.

Like you the foxglove pic I posted on my photo a day blog is a 'chance' seedling! I think they often grow better than the planted and planned ones!!!!

Hi Ruth,
I can help you with the first one , it's a Holly Blue, they are a bit paler than the common blue. I carn't help on the moth, there are so many that look similar.
How are the coffee grounds doing?

Thanks Mark; you're a star. The coffee grounds may br working as when I moved my lettuce troughs to a different position there was a line of snails along the side of the trough but no further noticeable damage; I'm hoping this means the snails wouldn't cross the coffee barrier.
