A THURSDAY THOUGHT

a thought for Thursday

IF SOMETHING "GOES WITHOUT SAYING"

WHY DO PEOPLE SAY IT?

I'm on quite a high today as my first Literature and History Assignments were returned yesterday and I saw the glorious PASS rather than "referral"; I'm really pleased with the comments the tutors made with smatterings of "excellent", "flair", "intelligence" and "clear articulation"...YIPPEE! I know that what we've done so far is only the Key Concept stage and things will become far more difficult but I feel like I've jumped the first hurdle safely. Maybe those nightmares that I get thrown off the course will stop now! We do have Literature and Sociology homework over the half term but I'm giving myself a few days off before I tackle it. This weekend I will be away from home for the first time in two and a half years.....I shall be visiting Lynn and Steve (not forgetting Max the dog). It will be an emotional time for all of us...the first visit ever without Mick.. but Lynn (bless her) is making sure it's something special and has arranged for a visit to Wisley. This is one of the dreams that Mick and I had and I'll be doing it for both of us now.

Ruth I am so pleased you are getting to Wisley - and I hear that the weather for the weekend is to be great. I live only 10 minutes down the road, so I know that you will be seeing some beautiful "Surrey colours" .... the leaves are just turning so it should be awesome.

Congrats on your assigments, anyone who reads your blog regularly will know that you always write with "flair" and "intelligence".

WOW! Well done that woman!
I would love to go to Wisely, but having our very own roving reporter Ruth there will leave us knowing we will get a full report!

Have a good time, I will text you!

Hi Ruth,
I think you are doing so well because of your very good memory recall and the fact you have had plenty of time to gather experiences...lol
Enjoy Wisley and I look forward to the photos.

Cheers Mark

Hurrah for you, Ruth! I am so happy you are doing well with your studies! (as though I didn't think you would!!!) It is amazing that our life experiences only add to our *knowledge*...

I am also happy to hear that your are going on little visit! Although it might seem a bit hard, remember that Mick would be happy to know that you are going! It seems strange, but so many times when we are doing things, we think about Mark's dad, and how he would give us a smile and the "thumbs up"!

Have a wonderful time and I cannot WAIT to see your pictures and hear all about your outing! Relax and have fun!

If something "goes without saying" and yet the speaker feels the need to point the fact out, in my opinion they are often being patronizing, glib, offhand, etc!

I think they say it because there are some people, like me, that need to be reminded over and over again. I hope your visit was calm, comforting and secure. And I am glad school is going well. Don't forget: age doesn't make us old: it makes us wiser. Somethings in classes will be easier for you than for kids.
